After a day off tournaments on Friday following Chatswood & Asquith I was feeling fresh and ready to go at Morisset over the weekend. However first things first on Saturday morning I went and had my weekly catch up with coach Gary Barter out at the Australian GC. I love these sessions on a Saturday morning as we get out there first thing and have a chat over breakfast about what’s been happening and how the game is feeling followed by a solid range session to work on a few things….there is no better facility to practice on than The Australian GC. Saturdays session had me feeling particularly positive as it showed that we have made some great progress on the changes we are making over the past few months.

The drive from the Aussie to Morisset was about 90mins and throughout the trip the wind got stronger and stronger so I knew I was in for a tough afternoon.

Year after year Morisset is presented perfectly and this year was no different, a solid warm up and it was GO time.

The wind was not letting up and it was making it difficult to judge distances and feel comfortable on the greens. A very rough beginning and mid section to my round had my back against the wall at +7 through 10 holes. I managed to regroup and grind it out the last 8 holes to finish the day at 78(+6). Certainly not the day i was expecting, my short game in particular let me down, however was happy with the way I hung in there. I had enough good vibes to think that I could shoot low on day 2.

Being in the bottom half of the field got me a 7am start on Sunday, I looked at this as an advantage to get out early in good conditions and play my way back into the $$$. After Saturdays strong winds it had calmed down alot and the course seemed alot more attackable.

Much better start to the day had me moving in a much better direction and felt like I was back in control again over what was happening. Created numerous opportunities throughout the round but unfortunately the putter didn’t want to cooperate again and I left alot of them out on course. Finished up shooting 68(-4) to finish the tournament with a 2 round total of 146 (+2) and a T-19th finish, the winning score for the 2 days was 139(-5).

From where I was after 10 holes really happy with the way I stuck it out, things could have easily gone the other way.

Big thanks to my playing partners over the 2 days, in particular Tim & Pam Stephenson and Colleen from Affordable Wardrobes on day 1, they managed to keep me smiling and laughing on a very tough day.

Teeing it up tomorrow at Glenmore Heritage GC for the NSW Open Pre Q where there are about 70 guys for 2-3 spots, keen to keep the momentum going.
